Just finished watching a nail biter between Mississippi State and the Tigers. Tigers won, but just barely. I am going to take a step back from this. My First reaction was, of course, horror. My next reaction was, see, those damn gun free zones don't do shit to stop gun violence. I ranted and raved at work about how the GFW have made it their business to deny those students the right to defend themselves and so forth. Upon further reflection I have decided that that is 100% wrong headed.

Now don't misunderstand me, if a CCP holder had happened to have been nearby things might have turned out different, Maybe. Upon reflection I realized that many of those kids were well under 21 and CCPs would be few and far between. So? What now? Where can I vent my considerable anger at this situation. Well I started thinking about my own family and in a few years I will have a child in college, where do todays events leave me?

I have come to one inescapable conclusion, Why were those children not protected?

Seems like a fair question. We put money and gold things in vaults with locks and guards. I am not saying lock up the kids but how about some access control, how about some quick response to situations, how about paying attention when somebody gets shot and not playing it down to something simple and easy to control. I don't think the dorks lit off a nuke. I think they tried on Sunday and were unsuccessful, then loaded up a cave close by with a few hundred tons on TNT and lit that off. Judging by the missile tests they conducted a few months ago, I don't think they have the technical capabilities to pull it off. Is it even possible to make a nuke that small? It seems to me that opec cutting production to artificially keep oil prices up could be an act of war. I don't say that lightly. I said " it is amazing what two atomic bombs will do to quell a populace" and also that maybe we should examine this a little more closely in our current situation. I am not advocating nuking Baghdad or even giving it the "Dresden" treatment but we should, in my opinion, be a little more forceful in our dealing with the enemy.

Alright I will admit I went in with lowered expectations due to some feedback I had heard about this movie, but to all of those folks who said it was not good, you are nuts. It was way better than the second one which was admittedly a POS. And it was by some account better than MI I. It had lots of action, believable. And it also had some good twists. All in all well worth the $20.00 US I spent.

What we need is CRIMINAL CONTROL. Lets start by legalizing all drugs and taxing the crap out of them. Lets face it War on drugs? What a joke. I, a person who does no drugs at all and has not for a long time, can get any drug you can name within a few hours time. So that is a lost cause. So that will free up tons of room in our prisons. Next run all prisons like the sheriff in Arizona, he gets it. These guys are criminals, they gave up their rights when they committed their crime. As soon as they pay their debt, they can come back to civilization, until then Screw 'em. Put people away for a really long time when they commit a crime. If you rape, you get put away until you can't rape again say your eightieth birthday. If you rob someone same deal, you stay in until you are no longer a threat. Not a lot of octogenarian robber around. Then if you get caught a second time, boom, you are done. Out of the loop and off the reservation. You are no longer a member of society. You will remain in prison for the rest of your life. This approach will free up all the money being currently spent on prisons and the wasted effort on drug control. It will also create a significant tax revenue on the sale of the now legal drugs.

It seems like I just turned most state budgets from red to black. Am I just that good?

Talked to a Liberty Bowl official today and he is very excited about the SEC Conference USA matchup for the next Liberty Bowl. Perfection for me, Memphis V. Arkansas. Full stadium good game. The rules say we cannot repeat a game we played during the year so Ole Miss and Tennessee are out, so that leaves Florida(ouch), Alabama(ouch, but not as bad), Vandy(we would kill them), and South Carolina(tough game). Then of course the Hogs. I am a razorback fan from way back, as far back as the southwest conference days. Can you say Cotton Bowl Vs. Longhorns? I knew that you could. Anywaaaaay, he also said that Tiger Coach Tommy West is very happy about this years team. I think we could be the sleeper in the conference. Nobody will be looking for us with DeAngelo gone. My new gun lock is a POS

I just bought a new beretta neos .22cal. I love the feel of this gun and I cannot wait until this weekend to shoot it.

The reason I am writing this is two fold.
First, I bought the gun at Bass Pro Shops. They were very helpful and knowledgeable. Of course it helps when you go in knowing exactly what you want and have already done all the research. That being said, as far as their knowledge went they were willing to give. But, they keep all of their guns secured with these pitiful plastic trigger locks. Very plastic and very generic. One size fits all approach. I showed the person behind the counter how ineffective this type of device was and he agreed that they were a waste but company policy prevailed. After you buy a gun there you have to carry it to customer service to get the lock removed. Let me repeat what I just said, I had to ask a child behind the counter at customer service to remove the worthless triggerlock from the gun I had legally purchased almost twenty minutes before. He did his job well, he asked for my ID and for the receipt, which I showed him no problem. But then it happened, he said to one of the other children behind the counter that he would never have a pistol in his house. He said they were of no use for "huntin'" so he would have no part of them. Since he was very obviously under 21 I did not bother to ask him if he thought a carry piece for personal protection was useful. I left the store shaking my head.

Second. I got home and proceeded to remove all the extra crap that comes in most new gun boxes and came across the "State of California Certified gun lock". This device at first glance looks pretty good. A nice color(I am a cowboys fan) and seemingly well constructed. As soon as I tried to unlock it however, I was shocked to find that it barely functioned and in fact would hardly lock at all. It seems that someone tried to use a bike type locking mechanism and fit into a square lock body. The key looks like it comes in a crackerjack box and after two attempts I was able to unlock it using only a jumbo paper clip and a small flat screwdriver. I am not sure what you have to go through to be "certified" in the state of california but let me assure you this thing is a POS. I think that anyone using this device is getting a false sense of security and I also will bet that at some point this will come back to haunt the manufacturer of these pitiful devices. This type of device is nanny state run wild. It gives the impression of security while not actually securing anything. Crappy stuff like this let folks abdicate their responsibility to keep their firearms safe. I am willing to bet that since gunlocks have been shipped with new guns that no less accidental deaths have occurred. I cannot put my hands on these figures right now. I get conflicting figures. I suppose it matters how you define accident.

At least that is what I think he said. If so, I humbly disagree. Now I am nowhere near as adept at world political thought as Glenn but, I still believe that Israel has the wherewithal to do what needs to be done and they are just looking for a head nod from the US. With maybe a few planes thrown in for good measure.

Now don't get me wrong. A quick perusal of this blog and one might come to the conclusion that I am a Damn the torpedoes, Kill 'em all let God sort 'em out kinda dude, that could not be further from the truth. I am the guy always breaking up fights. Always the peacemaker. But in this instance I think we (western civilization) are just giving Iran the time they need to either make a bomb or hide/protect evidence of said bomb making. Somebody smart once said a good defense is a good offense. This may have not been the exact situation he had in mind but, it still fits. I cannot see a diplomatic way out of this one. At least not for Israel. Iranian president ihavenoideahowtospellhisname has already said that he believes that Israel should be wiped off the map and Iran is trying to get the capability to do just that. I don't think turning the other cheek will work in this instance for it will be just as blown to bits as the other one.

California wants to line a canal that brings water from the Colorado River with concrete to prevent seepage which is taking away too much water. Two parts of this caught the attention of my crazy detector:

A group of Mexicali farmers and businesses has sued in federal court in Las Vegas to stop construction; a hearing is scheduled April 24.

So they can sue in our courts to ge our water without paying?? Does this make any sense?

So why exactly are we making it EASIER for illegals to get into our country?? What could possibly be the reason for this? Why don't we make it easier for criminals to escape prison or easier for pedophiles to find little children. All of these

I have always been a conservative supporter. I have not always agreed with all of the practices of the right but it boils down to lesser of two evils.

That, my fellow subjects is the real evil. We only have two choices and they both SUCK. Bush sticks to his guns, even to a fault and the right has spent the US into the debt ceiling. Now you might be asking, whats wrong with sticking to your guns? Well, Bush has not had a gun to stick with on many issues he should have faced head on. He needs to control his party and get back to being the small government conservative he is supposed to be. I have heard several figures thrown out about the size of the federal government now vs. Clinton times, but if I take the middle road it is still BIGGER. WTF??? How does this translate to smaller government? Don't even get me started on the war on terror but leaving our borders wide open. This is a conundrum of epic proportions. Like jumbo shrimp.

Don't get me wrong I still detest the liberal and almost every thing they do. It is funny if you look at what the liberal party and organizations like the ACLU say on their face then most reasonable people would support them. Instead they take the worst road from their origins and go into alternate realities I cannot even understand.

I don't have an answer to the problem. I know if I want to find a candidate I am completely happy with I will have to form my own party and run myself. I could call it the Common Sense Party. CSP, kinda has a nice ring to it. The problem with this approach is that third party's are not usually viable, again, the aforementioned evil.

So the question remains, what is a reasonable person to do? It all comes back to the lesser of two evils, who sucks less, which will steal from me the least, who will take away less of my freedoms and liberties?

No choice but which one is not as bad as the other. That my friends is the real evil.

Motorola MPX 220 . I just bought this one from eBay, to avoid a new contract, and so far I love it. It syncs well and the interface is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better that mobile phone tools*spit*. I love the windows base OS and it has all of the features a good phone/PDA needs. It is not a blackberry or treo but it is almost as good at a fourth of the price.

He has been really keeping up with the whole eminent domain thing around the nation. I posted a while back about the fact that I believe your home is the place to make a stand. This would only be prudent in very certain circumstances and you would lose, but, I still believe it. If the state wanted to put an interstate through my house and offered me a decent price for my home, I would move. I know the operative word is "decent" but anywhere within 20% of local value would do.

If they wanted to take my home to put up condos or build a mall then I might balk. Now I need to clarify here that for the right amount of money I would move and I would not care one iota what they put here. So that makes some of what I am saying hypocritical but I see a difference.

This would have to be stand that I though would make a difference. I mean cameras and media all over and local folks on my side. Not just me and my AR in the den waiting on the swat guys. This would be a stand to wage in the media and in streets. Not an easy bill to fill.

I usually just say something about needing to see it in the daytime and leave it at that. You know,"looks good, I need to see it in the daytime to fully see the colors". I am more interested in the restaurant carry bill that Neify has successfully stalled. As it is I bet more people that you imagine just break that particular law. I am going to carry when I am out to eat. I do not drink so I am no danger.

The state of Tennessee would have me be unarmed in the exact place where most robberies occur, the corner gas station. This is totally unacceptable. The way I read the law, it is illegal to carry anywhere that alcohol is served or sold. This means gas stations, grocery stores, and the like. So why can't I carry at the grocery? It is illegal to drink any alcohol I buy on the premises but I cannot legally carry a weapon. Why is this? This seems arbitrary to me. I wonder how much leeway an officer has in this situation. On that note I am not sure I want there to be any leeway, I want to be able to exercise my Second Amendment Right wherever I choose.

p.s. As a rule I don't hunt with .223, I have but it was, uhmm, unproductive. I recommend a 30-30 or 30.06.

UPDATE: It appears that the law was changed so it is only illegal to carry where alcohol is sold for on-site consumption. So I now only break the law half as much.

I have been wondering how long before the total lack of protection to our nations infrastructure was exploited. Now don't get me wrong, I hope this was not a case of that, but it seems a little to coincidental.

There are miles and miles of unprotected pipeline alone. If you add in bridges and tunnels it becomes a little bit of a nightmare. Living in Memphis, where we have two of less than a dozen traffic bridges across the Mississippi, we also have the worlds busiest cargo airport, and a naval personal base, if you don't worry about potential natural or man made disasters you are crazy. I am not nor have I ever been a conspiracy theorist, but I wonder if the government would not keep a pipeline breach or similar issue quiet to keep chaos from resulting. They might chalk it up to an accident. I know this post rambles and has no real point, but I am just expressing a vague unease. So take that for what it is worth to you.

Those of us who are self described "gun nuts" also spend a lot of time and energy being prepared for thing that have a very small chance of occurring, but, how do you prepare for not being able to cross a river? This would shut down almost all of our nations commerce. If stores cannot get product they can't sell it. Picture going to the grocery store and the shelves being empty. Now I figure most folks who read this blog are calm and collected enough that this would not send them into another dimension of fear, but we are the minority I assure you. Total panic would ensue. We would all be forced to fall back on ourselves to take care of our own families. Then we will see who is better prepared.

Wow, as I reread the last two sentences they sure do seems off the chart in the paranoid department, but I wrote it and there it will stay. I still believe it to be true though.

In most cities police response time are measured in minutes. How much harm can be done in one minute? I or my family will defend ourselves and when the police arrive, they can clean up.

I want to be clear, I am in no way speaking ill of the police. I think they do a wonderful job with the resources they are given.

Basically the state of california, and others, has taken a double crap on the Constitution. First off they deny my right to keep and bear arms as afforded me by the Second Amendment, then they proceed to wipe and do it again by crapping on article Nine. I can't understand why these laws have not been throw out?? I mean it is written right there in black and white.

I suppose it follows using their logic that we in the great state of Tennessee do not have to recognize any of the laws of california as we see fit.

I am so sick of kids at universities who have not been in the job market or the "real world" lecturing a well noted author and columnist about racism. I mean who the f**k does this guy think he is? The family has been on me a lot since we had to put the best dog ever down over a month ago. They all want a puppy. I am not ready, not from an emotional standpoint, well not entirely, but I know how long it takes to get a dog into the groove and be an asset not a pain. All they can think about is cute and cuddly, all I can think about is puppy poop, whining at night, and chewing.

Well since I know that it is a foregone conclusion that we will get another dog I want an American Bulldog. I have done some research and I think this is about the best fit for my family besides a rotty like we had. We (I) want a bigger dog, a smarter dog, an inside dog, a companion dog. The ambull fits all of these in spades. Now this is not the kibbles and bits dog but the cheaper by the dozen bulldog. You can see the difference in the two pictures posted here.

After reading a comment thread at uncles I have a few comments/thought of my own. I did not see anyone mention the fact that they can't be home at all times and what does the wife/family do then? I cannot picture my small wife handling my 20 inch Mossberg 500. Likewise I cannot see her with the AR. I know she can hit whatever she points the Glock 19 at. I keep two spare mags in the lockbox, small kids in the house, and she knows to keep herself and the kids in the bedroom and shoot five then look at anything coming through the bedroom door. If it is still coming shoot the last ten and reload. I see people talk about overpenetration and I worry since the kids are in the house but as long as I keep all shots above four feet no small ones in the way.

If I am home then all the same rules apply except I go offensive. She and the kids behind the bed and I go out with the twin brother of mister Glock 19. I have decided that I am willing to kill to defend my children. No harm shall come to them.

I can't be concerned about what a jury might or might not think later. I am going to use the best available firearm and ammunition to defend my family and fuck anyone who says boo. If they want to put me in jail for that, well it will mean I was successful in my primary objective and I am still alive. In that vein I keep blacktalon and glazers in the ready mags. No warning or retreat will be given. If you are in my home you have crossed a line, from civilized to predator.

I swear to G0d she just throws them in the air and however she catches them, that is how they get folded. So, since I am a firm believer in either let me do it my way or do it yourself, I do it myself.

According to this post Via Ace the city of Memphis is paying over two million dollars a year to "rent" the pandas. Our current contract with the Chinese runs out in 2013. Look I love our zoo and I also like the pandas but two million dollars?? I wonder if this money could be better spent. I have not seen anywhere if the pandas draw enough to pay for themselves or are we just trying to "keep up with the joneses"?

I suppose if I have no proof of an issue then I will let it lye but I will look into this and see if any concrete numbers have been done.

I say fuck Ham-ass. I think Israel would well within their right of self defense if they just did a "Dresden" on the whole area. I mean really give extermination a shot. I wonder in my secret place if it may not be time to just say fuck it and give them an ultimatum, if one more innocent dies by your hand then we (western civilization) carpet bomb a major middle eastern city. I voted with the majority. I can see several upticks in the economy. The particular industry I am in has not yet come around but I think it will soon enough. Being my age (34) I am not sure if I am qualified to discuss the economy as much as someone in their fifties due to the economic boom of the eighties and early nineties. I have never seen a real recession. I live a comfortable life, although some of that is due to my modest lifestyle of which I am fond. I spend more on some things that I should, guns being the main culprit. However, most firearms hold their value very very well and some actually appreciate, so I guess it could be said I am a savvy investor.

Speaking of investing, these days it is so easy to just sit back and dump money into a 401k or something like that and watch it grow. I wonder where the economy would be had those type of accounts been pushed to the boomers more. That would be a lot of money in the system.

I think that a person should be able to refuse social security benefits if they want. Obviously they are not enough to live on these days so if you prepare properly then you don't need them. I know that this would frankly be communism because the government would be taking from me and giving to others, but if only needy received benefits then there would be plenty to go around. I have not figured out how to keep people from scamming the system though.....well not every idea is perfect. Do I have to do everything? I have given you the broad strokes now go make it work.

Sound pretty bad don't it? Well anyone who has ever hunted small game, birds especially, knows that the shot size is very very small. So small in fact that it will not go through most clothing. I am not forgiving Cheney for what happened, you have to know what is behind what you are shooting at, but, birds move quick and if someone gets separated from the group it is his/her responsibility to let the others know where he/she is. My wife likes to watch ice skating and I like speed skating, ok, I like the ice skating as well. The story about Chad Hedrick is a good one. He is the in-line skater turned speed demon. I cannot begin to estimate the damage done to the US everyday through our very porous southern border. I have to echo Kim on this, if the Republicans lose the upcoming midterm elections I believe border security will be the reason. We are at war yet everyday over 20000 people enter our country illegally through our southern border. That is over SEVEN MILLION per year. All it takes is one with a chemical or biological or, God forbid, a nuclear weapon and the 2.2 billion dollars(at the highest estimate possible) to build a fence will seem like a pittance. Look I want the next guy to get everything he can but do it legally . Do not sneak into my country, break my laws, and expect me to like it. I am all for a Minuteman type project. As far as I am concerned the ONLY function of the federal government is defense, which includes border security, and infrastructure. Everything else should fall to the states. I am not going to get into an education rant but you know what I mean.

If your home is not the place to make a stand where is? I mean really. I am not a nut and I really believe in the government, but my home? You want to take it? Good luck. Last year some folks were up in arms about free speech on blogs and the internet in general, while I am not for kiddie Pr0n and the like I will let a lot of things slide in the name of freedom. But I have come to the conclusion that being forced into moving against my will at well below market value may be the "line in the sand". This is not a declaration or anything crazy like that, but, if not then, when? If not me, who? And so on and so forth. The only sticking point is the whole swat team/sniper thing that will be on the other side of the door. This is a powerful deterrent but seems to be akin to the SS at some level.(do not remind me about Godwin's law). In all actuality I would subjugate myself and my family to the law but I would be really really pissed off. I guess the question is when is right(the law) wrong and what is to be done about it? Well Steve and I disagree on the quality of the "interview", I like the fact that he was there doing it. I firmly believe that this is the type of thing that will take hold. These professional political operators need to be held to actually answer the questions put to them. I get so sick and tired of questions being asked and the answer having absolutely nothing to do with the original question. I compare it to the movie Miss Congeniality, any question that the contestants were asked they answered "world peace" and everybody applauded. Durbin and his ilk do this time and again in print interviews and on TV. It has gotten to the point of parody.

Reporter: Senator Durbin, could you explain exactly why you and the other democratic senators are so up in arms about the NSA domestic spying under Bush and had no interest whatsoever when Clinton did the same thing?

Durbin: Bush took us to Iraq under false pretenses. He said there would be weapons of mass destruction and only a few thousand artillery shells with chemicals have been found.

Reporter: Ahhh, Senator, I asked about the domestic spying, and by the way aren't chemical shells weapons of mass destruction?
